Student Research Day

Friday, November 1

Lab2
Student Research Day is the College’s annual celebration of student scholarship. It provides a venue for students to share their research, explore the work of others, and network with peers and faculty in a professional, positive environment. Additionally, students can compete for awards.

How to Share Your Research

  • Students can submit an abstract for their research project to be considered for the presentation sessions/competition to comresearch@shsu.edu.
  • Abstracts are limited to less than 250 words.
  • Poster dimensions should be 36X24.
  • Students who submit abstracts for entry must be designated as the first author. First author is the person who contributed the most work to a project. For multiple author projects, please discuss and determine first author as a group.
  • Only one (1) entry per first author is allowed.
  • Abstracts must focus on research projects relevant to one of three areas of research:
    • Pre-Clinical/Laboratory
    • Clinical Medicine/Community Health
    • Medical Education
  • The project does not have to be completed (i.e., results are not required). Please refer to the program’s Abstract Guidelines for formatting rules and submission instructions.

*Works that have been presented at a professional venue (e.g., conference) in the previous year can be submitted for display at Student Research Day but will not be considered for the competition and award.

Entries that do not follow guidelines and/or submission instructions will not be considered for presentation sessions/competition.

Pre-Clinical/Laboratory

These projects involve the application of the natural sciences, are performed in the laboratory setting, and will often require additional training (provided by the program) for working with animal tissue, human tissues, cultures or biosafety protocols.

Clinical Medicine/Community Health Research

These projects aim to produce knowledge valuable for understanding human disease, preventing, and treating illness, and promoting health. These projects embrace a continuum of studies involving interactions with patients, diagnostic clinical materials or data, or populations.

Medical Education Research

These projects aim to advance the knowledge, skills, and professionalism of medical students by understanding and evaluating educational ecosystems. These ecosystems include policies related to admissions and curriculum, people who serve as teachers and mentors, instructional technology and other resources, the attitudes that pervade a given institution or educational experience, and even the medical students themselves.

Selection Process:

Abstract reviewers will select top abstracts to be presented as an oral or poster presentation. Presentation format will be specified for selected abstracts as part of the notification process. The submission deadline has passed for the 2024 Annual Research day. All first authors and corresponding Principal Investigators have been notified of poster and oral presentations.
